How to Find, Support, and Retain Teachers from Industry (Brian Rick) AND Building an Educational Pathway (Angie Neilson)
Thursday February 13, 2025 8:30am - 10:30am CST
This presentation will address what is needed to find quality applicants and to support and transition your teachers from their respected industries to the classroom. This research was conducted from an ACTE mini-grant on how best to support and maintain your teachers, instructors, and adjunct teachers that are transitioning directly from industry in both the secondary and post-secondary spaces. We will discuss challenges these new teachers face coming into the classroom and give you some ideas and resources for supporting these new teachers including discussing the use of an interactive gaming technology that can benefit both these new instructors and the students as they work through this process together to increase student engagement and learning (Brian Rick) AND This session will walk teachers through how to build an Education Pathway/Grow Your Own program in their high schools; including highlights from the two pathway courses, best practices for classroom observations, and work-based practices. There will also be information on team based challenges embedded in the courses, work-based portfolios, and rubrics for observations. Handouts will be available for participants in order to implement these practices immediately! (Angie Neilson)
